"Because you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you ..."
Isaiah 43:1a

My youngest is a social boy. In kindergarten he struggled (and still does) with not talking during circle time. After enough reminders to my son, the teacher informed me of her concern with his behavior. The mornings following, instead of taking the bus, we drove him to school, giving time to remind him of how much we loved him, and coaching him on how to stay quiet when the teacher was talking. He had to believe he could decide not to chatter with his friends. I have to say the morning drives worked. It was a rare day he had to sit out with his head on the table.

I have completed a few wellness programs in my day. I have also attended meetings on weight loss. A common tool for these programs is positive self talk. My success is very much related to what I tell myself I can do. If I don’t believe in myself, chances are I won’t succeed.

What if we described ourselves with the words from the ELCA Wholeness Circle "In baptism- a new creation in Christ"? What if we reminded ourselves daily, from Isaiah, "you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you."? Would that make a difference as we take on the challenges of well-being each day?

Talk to yourself. Remind yourself daily whose you are, and that you are loved. This is sure to make the journey of well-being a little easier. It is a journey of unquestionable blessings and many successes.
